PETALING JAYA: Flowers have always played an integral part in celebrations be it for birthdays, graduation ceremonies, weddings or anniversaries. For Chinese New Year, flowers are regarded as especially auspicious.

More than just décor to beautify a home, flowers in all their beauty, variety, colour and abundance, are also often symbolic of prosperity, health and happiness.

But like all things beautiful and precious, a flower will only bloom in all its glory if it is nurtured with patience, kindness and love.

A heartwarming video by property developer S P Setia Bhd titled the ‘The Fú-Growers’, exemplifies this dedication to patience when it comes to nurturing a bloom.

The video relates the tale of a son of a flower farmer, Ryan, who being impatient, hurries the process of planting seedlings, fertilising and watering a bed of flowers, only to realise they die soon after the potted plants are sold.

His wise grandfather however, shows him the true meaning of nurturing a flower from a seedling into a beautiful bloom.

Head of Group Branding & Communications Adelene Wong said the deeper meaning behind the video is the many missed opportunities of not being able to celebrate Chinese New Year together in the last two years.

“Due to the pandemic, many have missed the opportunity to bond with family members for a prolonged period of time and due to many factors, we may not be as patient as we are desperate to gather with loved ones again. During this festive season, it is good to be reminded that good things will only blossom when we nurture our efforts with heart and care, as well as with the right timing,” she said.

According to Wong, the majestic flower arrangement as seen in the video was a result of the collaboration with the renowned florist Eunice Teo, who made a name for herself when she worked in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.

Renowned florist Eunice Teo who worked in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ designed the flower arrangement in S P Setia’s Chinese New Year video.

“Signifying hope and prosperity that follow the season of Spring, Eunice has carefully curated a floral arrangement that features peonies blossoming in different phases which also signify the different phases of life. This year, Setia has also featured three different flowers for our angpow collection, the peony which signifies prosperity, orchid to bring abundance and cherry blossom which portrays a new beginning.

“In support of the local nurseries and florist businesses, the production of the video took place at Chiong Garden in Sungai Buloh, Selangor which is a particularly popular area during festive seasons,” Wong added.

Wong also drew parallels to the video, saying the concept of patience applied to S P Setia as well, as the last two years posed many challenges to the company in terms of managing its workforce and customer expectations.

“It took us a lot of getting use to, with the hybrid arrangements which to many may have seemed to be a nuisance while balancing a resistance to change. This was a passionate reminder to everyone that we shouldn’t rush through life but instead enjoy the process and trust in it, so that in the end good things will be the result of such effort,” she said.

Underground station of Battersea Power Station opened today

LONDON (Sept 21): As the New Zone 1 London Underground station officially opened, it will be the major boost for the regeneration of Battersea Power Station (BPS), the project owned by consortium formed by S P Setia, Sime Darby Property and The Employees’ Provident Fund.

According to the statement issued by BPS Development Company Limited, the company has contributed over £300 million (RM1.7 billion) to the Northern Line Extension (NLE), which runs from Kennington to BPS via Nine Elms.

With its very own Zone 1 London Underground station opened, it is expected to draw Londoners, international visitors and workers from across the capital with journey times to the West End and the city taking approximately 15 minutes, boosting the local economy and creating over 17,000 jobs.

“The launch of the NLE is an historic moment in British transport history and we are delighted to have been able to support and contribute to this pivotal infrastructure project, which is set to significantly enhance the connectivity of this part of London.

This is a proud day for Malaysia and all those involved in transforming the historic iconic Power Station and its surrounding area, being the largest Malaysian investment in the United Kingdom into a new destination where people can live, work and enjoy,” said Battersea Project Holding Company chairman Datuk Ahmad Pardas Senin.

Meanwhile, chairman of BSP Development Datuk Wong Tuck Wai said the NLE is a gamechanger for Battersea and Nine Elms, which will make BPS one of the most well-connected destinations in the capital.

CEO of BPS Development Simon Murphy added that the improving transport links and connectivity to this area of London has been fundamental to the development from the very beginning. It is also very crucial to the grand opening of BPS next year.

Once open to the public next year, BPS will house over 100 shops, bars and restaurants, as well as unique events and leisure spaces, including the Chimney Lift Experience, which will be operated by global events and entertainment leader, IMG.

The glass elevator will transport visitors 109m up inside one of the Power Station’s iconic chimneys before they emerge at the top to enjoy unrivalled 360o views of the capital’s skyline.

In the progress is also the Electric Boulevard, a new high street which runs from the south of the Power Station, between the Frank Gehry designed Prospect Place and Foster + Partners’ Battersea Roof Gardens to the new Battersea Power Station Zone 1 Underground station.

Opening next year alongside the Power Station, Electric Boulevard will offer a mix of office space, shops, bars and restaurants, a park, community centre and a new 164 room hotel from art’otel®, the brand’s first hotel to open in London.

S P Setia posts 1H sales of RM2.71bil

KUALA LUMPUR: S P Setia Bhd has sped towards achieving its sales target of RM3.8bil following a strong sales performance of RM2.71bil in the first half of the year.

In the second quarter ended June 30, the property developer posted a net profit of RM74.81mil, compared to a net loss of RM134.34mil in the previous corresponding quarter.

Revenue for the quarter under review was RM1.08bil, more than three times the revenue of RM331.33mil recorded in the comparative quarter.

This brought the group’s net profit in 1HFY21 to RM150.04mil compared to a net loss of RM110.25mil, while revenue rose to RM2.14mil, more than double RM1.03bil in the previous corresponding period.

According to SP Setia president and CEO Datuk Khor Chap Jen, the group remains optimistic yet cautious over the market outlook amid the strong pent-up demand from home buyers.

“We expect the economy in general and the property sector specifically to recover gradually in the coming quarters at the back of efficient rollout of the vaccination programme to achieve herd immunity as well as the imposition of various SOPs in our fight against COVID-19.

“Once these efforts are successful in curbing the pandemic, it is our hope that the economy will be reopened in stages, and its recovery process will be expedited,” he said in a statement released in conjunction with its earnings result.

According to SP Setia, local projects contributed to about RM2.07bil or 77% of total sales while the remainder was contributed by international projects, mainly Daintree Residence in Singapore.

In Malaysia, the sales were mainly derived from the Central region at RM1.64bil, followed by the contribution from the Southern region at RM296mil while another RM142mil was from other regions.

As at June 30, bookings received stood at RM954mil.

“The results achieved for the first half of the year were largely attributed to the strong sales performance for the first five months of the financial year buoyed by a generally upbeat local market sentiment early this year.

“However, the onset of the Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) lockdown in June 2021 had slowed down the conversion of bookings into confirmed sales,” said Khor.

Completed inventories during the six months to June 30 stood at RM425mil, a 137% increase over RM179mil in the year-ago period.

Khor added that a total gross development value of RM687mil in landed properties comprising mostly double-storey terrace and/or semi-detached homes were launched during the period.

There were high take-up rates especially in established and matured townships, including Setia Alam and Bandar Kinrara where bookings of the said launches hovered above 90%.

For the second half of 2021, the group will be offering new launches worth RM2.47bil in various townships including Setia Alam, Setia Ecohill 2, Setia Eco Park, Setia Eco Glades, Setia Mayuri, Temasya Glenmarie, Bandar Kinrara, Setia Alam Impian and Kota Bayuemas in the Central region, Setia Fontaines in Penang, Taman Rinting, Taman Industri Jaya and Setia Tropika in the Southern region.

S P Setia’s new sales and bookings in 1Q2021 to support its full year sales target of RM3.8bil

S P Setia Bhd’s sales target of RM3.8 billion would likely be supported by the developer’s RM1.19 billion new sales and RM1.3 billion bookings secured in the first quarter of 2021 (1Q2021), says CGS-CIMB in a research note today.

Local projects contributed RM923 million or about 78 per cent of the sales in 1Q2021, whilst the rest were contributions from international projects mainly from Daintree Residence, Singapore.

In 1Q2021, S P Setia achieved revenue of RM1.05 billion and a pre-tax profit of RM142.4 million.

The developer is maintaining its full-year sales target, which could be lifted by strong sales and bookings secured before the full movement control order (FMCO), CGS-CIMB said following a recent meeting with the developer.

It is planning RM3.7 billion worth of new launches for the year.

CGS-CIMB said the extension of the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) till December 31, 2021, is positive for developers as this could spur property buying sentiment in light of the property industry’s current supply glut and nationwide lockdown.

According to the stockbroking firm, S P Setia is not expecting any delays to its project handover, although revenue recognition could be weaker due to the strict standard operating procedure (SOP) onsite.

“The company revealed that the latest take-up rate for its Battersea project Phase 2 and 3A in London was 80 per cent as of end-July 2021,” it said.

Construction of Phase 2’s Switch House West with 98 units was completed at the end of March 2021 while the rest of Phase 2 would be completed by August 21, this year.

“We gather the handover of Switch House West started on May 21 and the half-a-million square feet of office space in the power station building was handed over to Apple in July 2021 as well,” the firm said.

CGS-CIMB said according to S P Setia, Phase 3A, known as Electric Boulevard, is expected to be completed between November 2021 and April 2022.

At home, S P Setia has deferred some of its hotel openings to 2022/2023 given the travel restrictions and the high number of Covid-19 cases globally, the firm said.
