The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak visited the 2023 Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM) Carnival at Setia Fontaines, Bertam, Penang today.

He arrived at 5 pm and was greeted by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) group chairman Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Tun Uda, and Penang State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, who accompanied him to visit the exhibition area.

The hour-long visit began with an introduction and briefing session by PNB president and group chief executive Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn.

At the Sime Darby Plantation booth, Ahmad Fuzi was briefed on the latest advanced machinery and technology used to control pests and insects in oil palm plantations. Ahmad Fuzi also spent time mingling and chatted with the staff from 50 exhibitors who were on duty in the carnival.

This will be S P Setia’s maiden foray into New South Wales and the new venture is located at 20 Atchison Street in St Leonards, a neighbourhood described as a combination of urban amenities within a leafy suburb.

According to S P Setia, there are plans to develop a residential development with secondary commercial and retail use estimated at a gross development value (GDV) of A$236mil (RM708mil).

S P Setia group president and chief executive officer Datuk Choong Kai Wai expressed enthusiasm for the expansion.

The event comprised a 21.1km half marathon for veterans and hobby runners and a 5km fun run which saw families with children joining in.

SETIA ALAM – S P Setia Foundation, S P Setia’s charitable arm, continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of communities in need with its Sincerely Setia Healthcare & Well-Being Assistance Programme. Following its earlier contributions in February, S P Setia Foundation delivered additional aid to assist the B40 community and veterans in need.

The initiative provided food and hygiene kits and wheelchairs to hospitals and non-governmental organisations. The COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the challenges facing vulnerable communities. The initiative aims to improve the well-being of patients undergoing prolonged medical treatments and veterans of police and army forces who face mobility and health issues.

S P Setia Foundation provided 750 sets of food and hygiene kits to Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang and Hospital Shah Alam, with toiletries contributed by Amari Kuala Lumpur. S P Setia Bhd said it registered total sales of RM2.56bil in the first half of 2023 with local projects contributing RM2.19bil or 86% of the sales.

In a statement, the group said the central region was the biggest contributor to the sales with RM1.49bil, while the southern and northern region contributed RM589mil and RM74mil respectively. Meanwhile, international sales largely made up the remaining sales.

As at June 30, 2023, S P Setia secured total bookings of RM470mil.

“The strong performance of S P Setia in the first half of 2023 demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality developments and solutions.

“We are pleased with these positive results, which reflect the strong demand for our projects, both locally and internationally,” said S P Setia president and CEO Datuk Choong Kai Wai.

According to Choong, the group’s earnings visibility in the short- to medium-term is robust with 44 ongoing projects and unbilled sales of RM6.82bil as at June 30, 2023.

“Despite the global challenges posed by persistent inflation and higher interest rates, the group remains optimistic about achieving a noteworthy performance for the financial year 2023,” he said.

In the second quarter ended June 30, 2023, the property developer recorded a net profit of RM43.06mil, down from RM80.09mil in the previous corresponding quarter.

The group’s earnings per share fell to 1.06 sen from 1.97 sen in the comparative quarter.

Revenue for the quarter under review contracted to RM942.72mil from RM1.02bil.

The group said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia the weaker performance was mainly owing to the property development segment, which recorded lower revenue and profit due to lower contributions from Singapore and the Central region.

The segment was also impacted by higher financing cost from interest rate hikes, unfavourable foreign exchange movement and a higher share of loss from joint ventures.

For the six months period to June 30, 2023, S P Setia recorded a net profit of RM98.51mil on revenue of RM1.91bil against net profit of RM147.59mil and revenue of RM1.89bil.
